Funding & Donations

As you can imagine, preserving Victorian buildings and heritage is far from simple, and can be very expensive. The harsh Pennine weather takes its toll, and so there is a never-ending need for painting and other general maintenance. Therefore as well as raising capital for projects we are always looking for support to help fund maintenance and running costs.

Since its formation, the Trust has provided over £1m of funding to achieve full restoration of the station buildings at Kirkby Stephen, Ribblehead and Horton in Ribblesdale and established a visitor centre at Ribblehead. It has also provided support for Ribblehead Viaduct repairs, provision of a new northbound platform at Ribblehead, the restoration of Hellifield Station, new waiting shelters at four stations, a pedestrian footbridge at Kirkby Stephen and many other projects.

Today, the Settle & Carlisle Railway is in many respects a line transformed. However, more remains to be done. The Trust receives funding support from various organisations, as well as income from holiday let rentals and retail activities. However, to achieve the wider aims as set out here, the Trust needs your support.
