Ribblehead Station
Our first major project: restoring Ribblehead station to create a Visitor Centre which opened in 2000
Ribblehead station closed in 1970 and re-opened as an unstaffed halt in 1975. The building gradually deteriorated and required major repair work. The Trust agreed a 125-year lease in 1999 and work commenced immediately. The new Visitor Centre opened in October 2000 and won the Ian Allan railway Heritage Award that year.
The station is very exposed and requires continual maintenance.
