The Settle & Carlisle Railway Trust Projects

Since its formation in 1990 the Trust has supported or led on many projects, large and small. We helped restore the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, fundamental to the line's future. We have long leases on three stations and own the Station Master's House at Ribblehead. Our priority is to maintain the buildings and structures and work on new projects when funding is available.

Ribblehead Viaduct

The majestic Ribblehead Viaduct is the most impressive structure on the line. The Trust helped fund repairs.

Ribblehead Station

Our first major project: restoring Ribblehead station to create a Visitor Centre which opened in 2000

Ribblehead Station Master’s House

A wonderful house used by generations of Station Masters. Now a popular holiday home run by the S&C Property Company.

Ribblehead Visitor Centre

The refurbished Visitor Centre and Café was opened in 2017 telling the story of the line from its opening in 1876

Ribblehead Waiting Shelter

A small restoration project making a big impact. Waiting shelters are essential on the Settle Carlisle line

Horton-in-Ribblesdale Station

A small station in a wonderful location close to the famous Yorkshire Three Peaks trail.

Kirkby Stephen Station

One of the three ‘large’ stations on the line in an elevated position near the market town. Now two holiday lets.

Station Clocks

A small but essential feature on every station.

Museum of North Craven Life, Settle

We have created a ‘Railway Room’ at the Museum telling the story of the Settle-Carlisle line.
